A landmark development on a landmark site

Vision

  • A Heritage Beauty

To reactivate a significant heritage property and re-open it to the community. The historical ES&A Bank was built in the 1800’s but its internal grandeur has long been hidden from the public due to the secure nature of bank use.

  • Respectful Design

to design a building that is respectful to the heritage nature of the bank and the street. The project will sit behind the bank as a silver screen, like the curtain on a stage behind the main performer. Whilst the new building will have a street presence, the aim is to create a unanimous form of limited visual noise, so not to detract from the historic presence and poise of the heritage building.

  • Street Activation

to encourage the day time activation of both Clarendon and Bank Streets. By creating an inviting environment for people to work, bringing foot traffic back to this end of Clarendon Street. Increased activation will benefit the local traders and the wider community.

  • Women in the Built Environment

To support and promote women in the built environment, together creating a landmark site for women in the industry.

  • Family History

To acknowledge family and personal history to the site and South Melbourne, giving something back to the area.
